Battery is probably on it's way out. Mine did the same and after a while it wouldn't turn on even when plugged in. I assumed the laptop had died. On the advice of another ABer we ordered a new battery (after the laptop had been dead for many months) and hey presto...turned straight on.
That would be my guess also.

I take it that the 95% reading is when the charger is unplugged ?

Whatever is checking the charge you have left is fooled into thinking you have loads, but for some reason it isn't being supplied when needed. Most likely a failure of the battery to supply the necessary current.
Sorry to interrupt, pussy. Ummmm did you buy an original battery. Ours won't hold a charge either.

I've only had the laptop for two weeks I thought it was something to do with the setting but seeing the answers here I think I need to get back to the company.
pussyfoot. Did you follow the charging instructions?

Psybs...Diz ordered it for me. It looked exactly the same as the old one except it actually had 'replacement' written on it. Cost £10 from ebay, I think.
Thanks Ummmm, I wondered if ours was a poor one.
What brand of laptop is it please ? when you have to replace a laptop battery in a Sony you have to use the genuine one as it has a chip in it and if you don't have a factory battery it wont boot .
