I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook. Circular images on the screen appear slightly squashed vertically, eg when using CAD. Is there a way to adjust the screen's vertical amplitude to restore circularity, or to adjust the screen width in compensation?

Right-click on the desktop and look for an option to check (or change) the screen resolution. Your netbook's screen has 1366 x 768 pixels, so the resolution needs to be either that or something that's scaled in proportion to it. Anything else will result in some distortion of images.
