Just bought a IPad Air Staff at Apple shop transferred a lot of my IPhone stuff, inc contact list.
Can someone explain in laymans terms, why I cant send txt messages to someones mobile number, whilst connected to a WiFi signal, to anyone on that list. My granddaughter tried explaining you can only do it if theother person has a IPhone.
If so would deleting entries save up data space. TIA

The ipad is a tablet not a phone. You can only send messages to an apple device using the iMessage (green blob as our family call it) on your iPad if your contact also has an apple device.
it is the same for Facetime (Skype for apple devices).
You can free up any space by going to settings to see where your space is being used.
You need an iPhone as well as the iPad for the text messages to work on your iPad.... As long as your iPhone and iPad are online, as soon as your iPhone receives an SMS or MMS message, it will relay it through Apple's messaging servers to your iPad. And, whenever you want to contact a "green bubble friend" from your iPad, Apple's messaging servers will relay that to your iPhone, and from there, out over the carrier network. It means, if you're on your iPad, and you need to text, you'll never have to go chasing after your iPhone again...
Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
Tap on Messages.
Tap on Text Message Forwarding.
Turn On the option for forwarding to your iPad.
Wait for your ipad to pop up an authorization code.
Enter the authorization code on your iPhone.
