I have just got a new desktop PC with Windows 8.1. I use it with Number lock on on the keyboard. However (unlike the previous Windows 7 PC), when switching it on the next day, it defaults to Number lock off. Is there an easy way to make it keep Number lock on without mucking about with the registry? Is this a quirk of Windows 8.1?

Is there not a setting somewhere, maybe in the CMOS settings menu ?

might help

I'd suggest looking in the registry first.
As long as you back it up first, it's a fairly straightforward fix if that is what is required
I have a Toshiba Laptop that defaults to number lock off after shutdown and I have to turn it on again when I reboot the laptop . I spoke to Toshiba about this and was told by their tech support that it depends on the BIOS installed at the time of manufacture . You could take a look at your Bios and see if it can be changed otherwise just turn it on after you reboot your laptop .

I have had a look at the BIOS settings and "Boot-up Num Lock" was set to [On]. I set it to [Off], re-booted, went back to the BIOS, reset it to [On] and re-booted. It still stays off until I press the NumLk key. It's not the end of the world, just an annoyance.
