Mr BM's letter P on his keyboard has stopped working. He lost the letter cap about a year ago. Now the metal thingy underneath has stopped working.

Is there any code he can use to get his machine to type a "P" without using that key? Ta

Barmaid, I hope Mr B gets his waterworks sorted out soon! We all need a good P don't we? . On my keyboard, it's the k. Sometimes it comes out as kkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Good luck BM. xx
He could 'Copy and Paste' P from another document by using the mouse.
I know this is a wild idea but I will just put it out there anyway....

He could buy a new keyboard?
ALT + 80 for capital

ALT + 112 for lowercase
in theory you could cut and paste one from the internet and then hit control+v every time. Somewhat tedios though.
an onscreen keyboard is usually available on most computers - here it is for Windows http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-xp/help/on-screen-keyboard#
A new keyboard is about £20.

Now there is an idea Ratter.

OK, assuming there is no code that can be used, can he just plug a keyboard into his lappy? I think we have a spare one knocking about.

I am liking the cut and paste idea, only problem is, instead of using the mouse, wouldn't he use "Control P"?!!!!!!
Any USB keyboard should work.

Sorry, the rest of you werent all there when I typed that!

He cant get the ALT thing to work SD. He did also say "I have to type 4 keys just to have a "P"? I'm nearly dying with laughter here.

I'll get him to try the onscreen keyboard, thanks Bibblebub.

Until then I think Control V it is!!!

"Control P" is that a reference to bladder control?
Question Author
lol Ratter, you are not helping with my trying to be sympathetic. There is some serious toilet humour going on in this house at the moment!!!
Hold the left hand ALT key down whilst typing the number on the numeric keypad - not the numbers along the top.

He tried that Dave. I think his laptop was invented with the arc cos it still doesnt work.
Time to plug in a usb kbd :)
Laptop keyboards don't usually have a numeric keypad, just the numbers along the top. I had this problem a few weeks ago except it was about 6 different letters. At first I just copied and pasted them (off other people's posts on AB, now that was tedious). Use right click on the mouse for copy and then paste. Then I borrowed a USB keyboard which worked perfectly and then I got a new keyboard for my laptop. Really cheap and easy to install, as has been said.

That's what most people would do ☺☺☺
However, I get the impression that Mr BM is a bit of a 'tight git'. So splashing out on a new laptop keyboard would be frowned upon.
Question Author
lol he's not tight. He's just skint. I might get him one for Christmas if I am feeling loving and generous.
Personally I'd just use the onscreen keyboard.
