Sometimes when I`m typing an email, if I find I`ve missed a letter in a word, typing in the missing letter automatically deletes the following letter. Re-typing this this letter deletes the next letter, and so on. I must be doing something to cause this. Any ideas what it is? Thanks.

You have pressed the 'insert' key. Probably.
if you are using a traditional keyboard the Insert key (in the block of 6 keys to the right of the main set) toggles between overwrite and insert
This used to happen to me all the time until my sister told me the solution. Just press the Insert key and it will solve the problem.

Many thanks folks. All 3 equal best answers!
If I may be allowed to add my two-pennyworth . . .

I've had this problem as well, not often but very annoying when it happens. I used to retype what used to be there (a mistake only adding to the confusion) and when really frustrated I adopted my usual procedure of pressing everything I could in quick succession - frantically. Somehow I got it back to normal but I've never known how or why so this is a real revelation. Thank you very much.
