Possibly through my tinkering I now have the word 'Astromenda' permanently in my Google search box. It disappears when I start typing another search item but it's becoming a nuisance. Any idea how to delete it ?
There is no such program in my ' uninstall ' department.

Windows 7. Firefox.

Cheers.

Sorry, I misunderstood :)

Looks like Jom has the correct answer. You'll need to remove the program and reset your home/start page to google (or even http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/ !)

Sorry, ozzy, your computer was right to tell you, maybe because the word parasite might be a worry, but my Macbook Pro found no fault with the excellent pcthreat website.

You need to download and run a scan with free edition of Malwarebytes (Avoid any offers of the Premium edition) Full removal instructions are linked below. ( Ignore Steps 3 an 5 ) :-

Thanks to you all.

I ran a much needed Malwarebytes scan and quarantined the 26 items it found !

That did the trick.

Thanks again.

I also got this nasty search before, and I didn't dare to download anything again like malwarebytes? So I followed the manual removal steps at http://www.pccaretips.com/blog/how-to-get-rid-of-astromenda-search-from-homepage.html and deleted many stuff on my hard drive and finally got rid of it.
