I have just bought a 1TB 'my passport' ultra external hard drive and want to transfer about 15000 music tracks, in about 30 different folders, from my laptop to new hard drive. What is the best and safest way, cop and paste, drag and drop etc etc. Any help and advice much appreciated, thanks.

If these are important to you then make sure you have at least TWO copies of the files. You have bought one external hard drive, but I would now go out and buy ANOTHER. First COPY the files from your PC to the EHD (using any method you like). These are your BACKUPS. Then MOVE the files from your PC to the second EHD, and these are the files you are going to use. drag and drop should do it. (I don't know about this particular make but it works with my Toshiba.)
drag and drop is easiest, its the same process as copy paste, only the actions taken to get the process going are different. DO make sure that the tracks that you have copied across are ok before deleting them from your computer.

External Hard drives contain moving parts and they can easily crash or be dropped or be lost or stolen so it important to have the files backed up on a second external hard drive.

Drag and drop should work with any make of external hard drive. Is the standard way to transfer files from one device to another for many years now. But be prepared for it to take a while....15000 tracks sounds like an awful lot to me, although it would depend on what length they take up.
I think drag and drop is the easiest way but still confuse what do you want to do?
