I appear to have deleted an XL file which I need - it is not in my recycle basket...is there anywhere else I can look for it please? Using Windows 8 so have also searched for the name on the front screen, as you can. When I open XL it is in the list of recently accessed docs but the path no longer exists! Thanks.

Do a search for XL files.

Sorry - tried that - not there.....:-(
I never use Windows files searching but rely on Everything http://www.voidtools.com/ to find files (make sure that all your drives are included in the search vie Tools/Options/Volumes - they are probably all set to be included by default).

If that can't find the file then a program such as Recuva https://www.piriform.com/recuva (i think that for home use it is free) might be able to recover it if it has been deleted.
If you download an app to find deleted files not found in the basket, then ensure you download it to a different disk and install it on a different disk, as you do not wish to use the disk that is missing your file at all, for fear of overwriting the space it resides in.

ThanksBibblebub - I thought I had it with Recuva but it only seems to have found a shortcut .LNK and not the actual file itself!
It looks like you've found out the hard way why people bother with backups.
