Help With Hpdeskjet 3050A Please

I have been using this printer quite happily with Windows 8 and yesterday I suddenly got the message 'Printer is in an error state'.
I can't find out what is wrong and hope somebody can help me. I have the installation disk.
I am a bit of a technophobe, so simple step by step instructions would be great.

Then call 0844 369 0369 (5p per minute from a BT landline, 0830-1800) to ask HP's UK Technical Support people what they can suggest.
Whenever I hear of someone having a problem with an HP Printer I always suggest they download and run the official HP Print & Scan Doctor. More often than not it brings the Printer back to good health :-

I found the print and scan doctor.
It 'spoke' to the printer, gave it a stern ticking off and told it to behave. It did, and I was able to print off a very urgent document.
Am very happy now.
