icons disappear and computer freezes

Hope you're there Chuck.
If I'm online and leave my computer inactive for an hour or so when I go back to it the desktop icons have gone but my wallpaper photo is still there.According to the icons at the bottom of the screen I'm still online but they don't initiate to a right or left mouse click..same with the start button.
My power options are set to Never turn off the hard drive or the monitor. System stand by is set to Never as well.
I've got to reboot to get it going again.Hope you can help. Thank you in advance

When this happens, are you sure that your PC is not displaying an alternate monitor/display (output) or desktop – that has no icons?

no i don't think so as moving the mouse would bring the computer to life and this isn't happening and the website I was on is still showing at the bottom of the screen

Try setting a different screen saver.
