A Year's Failed Updates

I've just checked my update history and since about this time last year, all the updates have failed. Can anyone tell me why please?

It could be fpor all sorts of reasons.

Windows will often issue message number when update fails so you need to find out the message number (and any text) and post it here.

You can often find out the message number from withing Windows update.

Thanks VHG. I don't seem to get any messages, as these updates happen when I'm closing down.
try running an undate manually (window update is on the start menu if you click all programs). It should at least report an error then if there's a problem.

OK, will try that Chuck.
If it works (you may have to run an update several times and restart a few times, just keep doing it until there are no more) then it's probably just a setting you have for automatic updates.
Question Author
Do I have to do it for each and every one individually?
Should be automatic as soon as you set the OS for automtaic updates, as follows

Hi Nibble. Thanks for that. I've just spent the last half hour trying to download a "Fixit" programme. I don't think it worked. I got the following codes:
8E5E03FA
8007065E
80070490

Whatever they mean.
Looking at your error codes as below:

Sorry about this, but it looks like when you updated the OS on your PC it failed.
Have you tried running a repair on your updates that you have in case there is a faulty one that is causing your problem. You can access the repair function by typing Trouble Shooting in the Start search panel and then folllowing the prompts at the fix problems with Windows Update. This may help you.
Reading this thread I have checked my updates. All the ones which have failed are updates for Microsoft 2007. I do not have this, is this why they failed?

Nibbles, thank you very much. I'll have a good look at this this evening when it's quiet. What is OS?

Galeck1947, I'll try that.

Mike11111, I'll check. Why would that happen?
OS is an abbreviation for Operating System. Windows 7 is one example of an Operating System.
It is not unusual for Microsoft updates to stop working of for Microsoft to provide you with updates which can never work.
The story is changing. Are you saying that most updates work but updates to something called "Microsoft 2007" is failing. If you do not have Microsoft Office 2007 but have email and receive attachments in Microsoft Office format (e.g. Microsoft Word documents) you may have downloaded the Microsoft Office Readers. There is a fault with the Microsoft Office Readers whereby you can get updates which do not work. There is a whole difference between certain updates failing and all updates failing. If you have an irrelevent update which will not work, then go to the Microsoft Updates website (the link is on your Start Menu), check your update history carefully, and consider marking the bad update as "Ignore".
But first do try the Microsoft Updates repairs recommended earlier.

Thank you very much methyl, for your comprehensive post. I do have Miicrosoft Office Word 2007.

I'll certainly do the Updates Repair.
