Picture numbering ?

Can anyone give me ideas for numbering photos. Ive tried dates as 120411
and 130411 and so on, but it does not seem to work very well. anybody have another system, please ?

If you use the American system of yymmdd then your folders will be displayed in date order. If individual photos, then make sure the yymmdd comes at the start of the file name.

I tend to name mine - I put them in individual folders for each topic, then keep them in the numbers from the camera, or name them if they are something special

I have a folder for each year and then folders for events, birthdays or holidays within that year. If no special event then I have a folder for say Spring_Summer.

Then I tend to number them 0001 0002 0003 etc. (If you do 1,2,3 then 11 comes before 2)

I tend to store files with a two-letter prefix and a two digit year and a 4 digit number, a photo of the children will be FC950003 meaning a photo of the Family/children taken/saved in 1995 and this is the (0003) third one in this category. My Parents are FP and siblings FS/FB, thus all photos come up together plus I can easily find them. To further separate them, Mother is FPm and Father is FPf.
