Why is Women's Darts so poor?

I have been a Darts fan all my life and am not too bad a player myself. I am just watching the womens Darts final, and as with previous years the quality of Womens Darts is not good. They can throw the odd good leg, but typically struggle to finish a leg in under 20 darts, which is about the level of an average player in my local Men's league. I can see no reason why Women should not be as good as Men at Darts, so I struggle to understand why professionally their game is behind the Men's. It's not just slighy behind, it is an absolute mile behind.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why Women cannot play Darts as well as men?

Well, Trina Gulliver has just won the title for about the 10th time, but I am not joking when I say that I would be fairly confident of beating her.

They just can't. I use to watch some of the ladies dart team in our pub and would be in fits of giggles. They'd throw the dart high in the air like it was going to go over the board....then it would come down and land in the 3...
lack of commitment
lack of competetiveness
lack of interest

occasionally you will get excellent women players, but they tend to be few and far between
My Mum was really good. She was also Northampton champion at pool 3 years running...
good on her ummmm ;)
thats pretty amazing ummmm first time I have heard of water darts......
Misspent lives :-)

Although she has never drank or smoked....
Bet she didn't have to use that piddly little stick at the 'old' Vol !!!! :o)
Yeah she did Jack....that was to our advantage as we were use to it. She also had a pool table in her cellar...
I measured it once..........14 inches !! :o)
I regret not bagsying it when they did the pub up......I'll just have to be content with my bottles of cherry brandy :-)
Nice............:o(
I know a lot of women who compete and beat the men regularly but women will never be able to compete with main on an even basis. Women have monthly and hormone problems that men don't. Women have to come home from work, cook hubby his dinner, put the kids to bed and then go out to play darts. They don't have the killer instinct needed either or don't feel the need to be as obnoxious as some of the top professional men players. Trust me, I know a few having played county darts for over twenty years.
pretty sexist comment there, Jan- a lot of men do cook for the family and do household chores before heading out to the pub or wherever
Yes DT...but not for as long as women have been doing it. They are on a major catch up.....
I know they do DT but not many of the male dart players I knew, or know now. I suppose I'm just getting old. :-)

womens champion ummmm?
Idly flicking through the Freeview channels a few days ago I came across one entitled 'Darts' and paused to view. I nearly fell off my chair with laughter. Not the darts, the competitors. Here were two women playing, rather badly compared with the men players I have seen. If you had given a blank sheet of paper to someone with the most febrile imagination and asked him to draw what a chav should really look like, he would be hard beat to come up with anything to beat these two. Huge earrings, bare arms, ill-fitting tops, tattoos galore and faces you could chop sticks on. OP is right when he uses the term "Women's" rather than "Ladies'"
I don't want to risk the wrath of the ladies here but there are very few, if any, games or sports where women can compete on an equal footing with men. If there were then we would see women competing against men at tennis, athletics, snooker, football etc.

Leaving aside the physical differences, it's always been accepted that women do not have the same spatial awareness as men. That's why they have more problems parking a car or squeezing one through a gap. For that reason they find it harder to track and intercept a ball which is why women's football is awkward to watch as the players have less ball control and tend to flap at crosses. For that same reason women are terrible at ball games such as snooker. They just can't judge the speeds and angles. I think darts is just another example of women not being able to judge angles and weights as well as men. A good woman will always beat a bad man of course, but the top men will invariably beat the top women.

Please don't anyone accuse me of bigotry. The results speak for themselves. Women never compete against men.
true for golf, swimming, etc as well
The lodger - No...Northampton champion...she had to beat men as well. She was brilliant and I'm not saying that because she's my Mum. But she was....
