How many times is the cue ball struck in a maximum break by the player making the break.

To be fair, St peter did say the 148 was the highest break, not a maximum.

There are 15 red-black pairs, so that's 90, then the 6 colours, so that's 96.
From potting the first red 21.
Ignore me
15 red-black pairs =30, so 36.

To get a 147 in snooker requires 15 reds, with 15 blacks, and then all six of the colours. A total of 36 shots without a mistake.
A maximum break is 155 though isn't it?

Foul shot from a break off and snookered on reds. Takes a free ball with a black then 15 reds/blacks etc.

Highly unlikely but possible!

The highest break ever in snooker is 148, by Jamie Burnett in 2004.
Don;t see how that is possible, if he had a free ball and potted a red he would have had to have potted a colour otherwise his break would have stopped.
danny....after the foul and snookered on the reds, he nominates the black as the next red...pots it and then pots the black as a black.
What don't you see as possible, danny?
That still leaves 15 reds on the table Sqad ie, 147 points left + the 8 he's got for the black-red followed by the black.
bhg......4 points for the foul
8 points for the freeball and black
147 for the reds and blacks.
I think Danny is questioning the 148 break!
The only way that could occur is if he missed the final black at the end.
//.4 points for the foul//
Points awarded for a foul are not part of a break.
If the black is nominated as a red and the potted again it is re-spotted which leaves another 147 points on the table.
a 148 break obviously includes a free ball and a lower value colour from the fifteen reds
If potting all blacks then you will get 155 ... but if you don't pot all blacks the score can be
155
154
153
etc.
danny...you are quite correct.
Ael, I think you have it.
