I think they would if they were good enough, they care only about getting the jam jar round the track and if woman driver won races then she'd be taken seriously.

I don't think anybody questions women's ability to drive. As long as they didn't have to park the car in a tight space.

There have been some very good lady drivers over the years - although I`m not sure she races regularly Sabine Schmitt - who is a presenter on the new Top Gear and Nordschlieffer specialist - is very impressive.
Sabine Schmitt. would take them on in her Transit Van!
Yeah but the bloody alloys would be scuffed.
Where are the alloys in a car Zac?

The problem would arise st the start of the race. While the lights are red they'd invariably be checking their fringe and lippy in the mirrors........

Yes they should cope, after all ... there are no roundabouts in F1
Bernie Ecclestone has also said he believes that Vladimir Putin should be put in charge of Europe!
cant see any reason why not. physical strength is not really a consideration so no reason they couldnt compete equally.

the only thing i will concede that women cannot generally compete with men equally over, is physical strength.
and thats just a fact of nature, nothing to do with who is better, cleverer or more capable etc.
everything else is fair game.

also the main reason there are not more women in F1 is not because they cannot do it, but because they dont have the same level of interest in it, and because they have been discouraged for a long time.
the fact that you even have to ask this question is evidence of that
We (work) sponsor a female racing driver. Not sure what kind of racing it is though.
they're not required to do much reversing in F1, wolf
Maternity leave could be interesting!
I have to admit that I can't drive - not because I am female but because I have the attention span of a gnat and I would cause carnage on the roads.

I don't think that, in general, girls are as fascinated with cars as boys are. But there is no reason why the girls with skill and interest can't do well in this sport.

jno - thanks, personally I would be safe on the roads if there was no reversing, corners, hill starts, pedestrians or other vehicles.

Apologies in advance

Would they need to change tyres every 28 laps......
yes, really aberant -

i mean in comparison to men, as i thought was pretty obvious in my post ...
you do not need to have huge bulging muscles to be an F1 driver.
you need to be fit and strong - but plenty of women are fit and strong.
Not in Bernie's lifetime, so it'll be at least three years before we know for sure.

F1 cars don't actually reverse a lot do they so should be ok.
Apparently refuelling during races is being brought back into F1, so women drivers would lose a hell of a lot of time at this because they would take so long to get their purse out of their handbag to pay
I don't see why not. Maria Herrera is taken seriously in the Moto3 international bike circuit.
