Well you're a lot of help :(

Most new phones are only value if you are going to use all the bells and whistles - my new one which I purchased as my old one died has am 8 core processor 15mp front cam 5 mp face cam and twin sim capability and came unlocked. I probably use about 10% of its abilities. Best to decide what you want from your phone and a price limit then get the best you can - there are some very reasonable tariffs around to.

I'll stick with my current sim card so I'll buy an unlocked phone. I don't really use the camera so that isn't important to me.

It'll be a choice between Blackberry, Android and Windows.
Just get an iPhone - you know you want to really :)

I held out for years, but eventually the security flaws of Android and Windows and the sheer unusability of the later Blackberries drove me into the nanny state of Apple.

Can't praise it enough - it "just works", without any of the paranoia and endless patching of the main rivals.

Thanks, but no thanks, sunny-dave.
If I suggest an Iphone, than I may be shouted down ! But I have an phone 4s for about 4-5 years now and it has rarely let me down. To quote a famous advert...it does exactly what it says on the can !
I'd suggest the iPhone as well. Very reliable, but they are costly.
Yep, iPhone is the way to go, you won't regret it.
Plenty of good bargains around if you want to go on a contract ::::

http://shop.tescomobile.com/pay-monthly/mobile-phones/apple/iphone+5c+8gb/tariff?deal=22531

For £15 a month, you get an iphone 5c, 3000 minutes, and absolutely NO upfront costs !

Whats not to like !
Just noticed that the iphone 5c is 4g ready ! I might even change from my iphone 4 at these prices !
I'm in the same place as you hc4361 and was hoping to get some tips from you post. Looks like its an iphone then!

I have already said my choices are between a Blackberry, an Android or a Windows phone. I have already said I don't an iPhone.

I don't want a contract phone. I pay £8 a month for 1GB data, more talk time and texts than I could ever use.
Go into Tesco and have a chat...I have found them to be really helpful...they might even beat this price that I have outlined. Don't forget to take your old phones sim-card with you, as they should be able to transfer over all your data for you.
HC...why are you against iphone ?
Sunny dave has it right at 16:45 !
mikey I did some looking into 4g on an iphone and I have got a feeling that its not the UK flavour of 4g for some reason.
Woofy....you may be right !

But all I need my phone for is for making calls, and the use of some apps, mostly here at home, where I can do it for free from my wifi. I have a spell-checker and a couple of crossword apps that I use a lot, especially at weekends. I very rarely use the internet away from home, so I am guessing that it doesn't really matter to me if its 3g or 4g, nor does the data allowance or text allowance matter either. I use the camera facility once in a while i suppose.

The main reason that I might change to an iphone 6, is to get the bigger screen, as my eyesight isn't what it was !

The deal from Tesco seems very good value for money, especially as there is no up-front cost.
indeed mikey. I've got a 5 have looked at the 6 but I don't think it will fit in my jeans pocket.
