Anyone who didn't think that South African A.B. De Villiers
is the best limited overs batsman should try to see the TV
highlights of his innings today.

50 off 16 balls
100 off 31 balls
149 off 44 balls

souns pretty awesome, but quality of opposition may have been a factor. Holding and Garner and Croft and Marshall aren't there any more

Very true, but the knock has moved him to number 1
in the World Rankings in both forms of the game.

He is the sort of natural sportsman who makes you sick -
Provincial Hockey, Rugby & Squash player and a scratch(!)
golfer
Brendon McCullum once played rugby - so well that he kept Dan Carter out of a schools team. Some people are just athletes.
It was fantastic to watch. He is amazing, and very understated. The w indies innings was a bit boring by comparison. I turned over to watch the snooker.
What a performance....haven't seen the snooker yet - is it finished?

As if he didn't have enough to do he is the one-day captain
AND keeps wicket.

I didn't mention in my original post that his deeds were world
records.
There must have been a certain amount of buffet bowling, but it's still a great feat.
One short of the fastest so the best?

The BBC newscaster had a bit of an incongruous statement on the News tonight. "The world's best golfer, Rory McIlroy, came second in the Qatar Open this afternoon."

Not quite there on logic at first pass!

DTCwordfan I presume you are referring to him being out
on 149 ?

If he is not the best can you suggest who is better/

Chris Gayle has the record in 30 balls.

Are you comparing the IPL with a full international ?
DTC Crossword fan
You didn't answer the question - who is a better one day
batsman than A.B. De Villiers?
If you are still unsure I can provide links to quotes by top
commentators/pundits.

Incidentally the 149 he scored was off 44 balls (previous best 83!)

Credit where it is due.
All a bit aggressive.

All I am saying is that Gayle holds the record for the ton.

I'd also put Kevin in the hat too......his current batting seems to appear to be a welcome return to form, brilliant that he can be too.
Oh and doesn't the one day game include IPL and other major competitions in the shortened format?
i watched the innings a couple of hours ago awesome batting performance
And how about K.C. Sangakkara who has more ICC points - just.
I thought that the stats for the one day game only includes 50 over ODIs, not any form of 20 over cricket (so not IPL etc.). In which case AB is the best ODI batsman. He's also pretty high up on the 20 over list.
I'm glad DTC mentioned Kevin. I think England has made a massive mistake by getting rid of him. Our best batsman by far for years.
