As I understand it, for the Olympic diving competition the floor of the diving pool has been set at a depth of 5m, but the floor can be adjusted to vary the depth as required.

|
I would also think the diving pool was deeper than 3 metres or most of the divers would be dead now.
The pool I used from the ten metre platform in Blackpool Derby baths was 16 feet deep, if you kept your body straight when you hit the water and you held that position you would would reach the bottom of the pool but only gently. |

FINA regulations state the minimum depth of a pool used for 10m diving is 4.5m and the preferred depth is 5m

Thanks for your speedy answers, folks, and glad to see this question was not too 'deep' for you. I thought that it would be more than the normal depth in the main pool.
That is amazing, toureman. I am glad you did not hurt yourself on the bottom on the pool then. |

Re Lifeguards, I would have thought that Lifeguards would be on duty or at least there would have to be someone in attendance that would be able to perform an emergency rescue by being competent in reaching the bottom and performing cardio pulmonary resuscitation should the need arise.
