was the footballer compton?
C B Fry is a likely candidate for the cricketer/footballer. He batted well and high up the order and, I believe, captained England at cricket. He also played soccer for England some time around 1900.
it was in 1958 but I had to look it up
I'm sticking with compton then. don't think Dennis was an international footballer so i'll go for his brother Leslie, who also played for arsenal.
I'd heard of the rugby man, but not the footballer.
jno, that rules out my guess then.
Mike Smith (MJK Smith) was Englands last double international. He played cricket for Warwickshire and Leicestershire, and rugby for England.
Leslie Compton never played cricket for England.
The other player is Arthur Milton who opened the batting on the Ashes tour in 1958
