What does Dance count as a Sport?

Hi Maja,

I am a sophomore in a journalistic writing class and we are writing an editorial on whether dance is just as physically challenging as any other sport. I was hoping any fitness experts or athletes and dancers could share some light on the subject either for or against it.

there is a film where jocks are put through ballet training to enable them to be fitter and jump higher etc! that could be your 'truth behind ...' angle?
You could use ice skating as a combination of dance & sport after all it is an Olympic event & very demanding physically
Back in 1987 when I was living in Coventry, the Coventry City football (soccer, maja) club was building up to a big match and their coach decided to make them join in the aerobics class that I was in - the point being that they would have to work on agility as well as the aerobic fitness aspect, and probably enjoy being with a bunch of sweaty women in leotards as well, if the truth be told. They were OK and they certainly gave the rest of the class a good laugh - even though Cyrille Regis did accidentally hit me in the mouth. Ouch! And they went on to win against Spurs 3-2. So learning a few fancy dance moves certainly didn't do those boys any harm.
kiki - did you say " nice one Cyrille"
BBM She Knowles yer know ;0)
Steve - Cyril Knowles? Blimey, you're showing your age. ;-)
