/// “The introduction of Wimbledon 2Day, presented by Clare Balding, will provide a fresh new look for the highlights show and continue to develop the ‘today at the games’ brand which Clare presented at both the Sochi Winter Olymhttp://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/jun/10/bbc-john-inverdale-clare-balding-wimbledon-5-livepics and Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014,” said a BBC spokesman. ///

/// The 44-year old’s star has been in the ascendency since the London 2012 Olympics, where her warmth, enthusiasm and professionalism led her to be labelled a “national treasure”. ///

Is she really a "STAR" not to mention a "NATIONAL TREASURE"?

It's all just hyperbole and spin AOG, don't worry yourself over it.
I'm not sure I understand your title in this context. Furthermore, where has she been called a 'star'?
I quite like Balding and thought she made a smashing job of the Olympics.
She always comes over as very professional in everything she does.

Maybe its her turn to be in the ascendency AOG ?
The BBC - and indeed any broadcaster - is aware of the need to refresh formats, and every presenter has a definite 'shelf life'.

It may be that Mr Inverdale is seen as less that acceptable after his unfortunate word slip, and his inappropriate remarks about a lady player's physical appearance.

Ms Balding has proven abilities as a broadcaster, and is very popular.

No, she is not a 'star', or indeed a 'national treasure', but I see no indication that anyone infers that she is either, or both.

As for 'political correctness', I think you are miles off the mark there AOG - Ms. Balding works because of her presenting skills, not her orientation which neither she nor her employers make any reference to at any time - nor indeed should they, it is irrelevent.
Andy ( 13:11) agree 100% !

/// I'm not sure I understand your title in this context. ///

*** The BBC has dropped John Inverdale from anchoring its nightly Wimbledon coverage, two years after he sparked a storm for making sexist comments about women’s champion Marion Bartoli. ***

/// Furthermore, where has she been called a 'star'? ///

Did you actually read this paragraph?

*** The 44-year old’s star has been in the ascendency since the London 2012 Olympics, where her warmth, enthusiasm and professionalism led her to be labelled a “national treasure”. ***

I do hope that explains your lack of understanding?
why do you think choosing a capable sports presenter has anything to do with political correctness?
I fear we may be having just a bit too much of the lovely Clare.
"More Political Correctness-phobia by AOG".....

no change there, then.
She is very good at what she does - enthusiastic and informed.

As for the rest, it's just flowery language often used in TV and Media reports.
[i]The 44-year old’s star has been in the ascendency[i]

No no, that's not calling her a star, that's not what it means. It means something similar to "her ship's come in" or "her day has come".
jno...well said !
AOG - //No, she is not a 'star', or indeed a 'national treasure', but I see no indication that anyone infers that she is either, or both. //

I must also stand corrected, because I did not read to the end of your link, and did miss exactly the inferences which I denied were in place.

But you wouldn't point them out to me, because it seems you are still refusing to debate with me directly, which I think is a shame, not least because it is for reasons which I have already forgotten!
I really like her. She has very nice mannerisms.
Oh I like her but there's only the Chelsea Flower Show and the Queens speech that she is not involved with - at the moment
AOG, I did read it and am non the wiser following your attempt at clarifying.

Thank you to JNO.

It is in the Left's bible the Guardian's report, so at least they must infer it.
She is one of the very few sports commentators to give the impression that her broadcast is about the sport and not the commentator themselves. The fact that she is not an ex-player may be the reason.
Indeed - and I do stand corrected - I think that the Guardian has got itself a bit giddy on this one!

I am sure that it was clear to most, but I am afraid I can't be held responsible for your own obvious lack of understanding.
