I was watching a video of Olga Korbut's amazing 1972 performance and realised today's athletes couldn't do the same.

You're right hopkirk, I've just checked on wiki and they started to be moved further apart, especially in the 80s, to allow bigger swing moves.

I've often opined how much better today's athletes are, as well as better prepared and fitter, but I am more than ready to make an exception in this case.

Bizarre, I've just been off looking at Ludmilla and Nellie Kim on youtube since I first posted, I loved them when I was a girl. Always my 2 favourites. Olga didn't really do it for me and certainly not Nadia.

Just checked out ludmilla. It wasn't her either. This one was very elegant, dark haired, older, more rounded and produced beautiful floor work. Oh, how irritating! Her name is on the tip of my tongue.
