Let's be honest here! Rooney has never progressed into the player we hoped he'd become. Now back to England...it's the same frustrating problems we've had for years. Players out of position just to be accomodated and alien formations. 4 4 2 with Gerrard, the best English central midfielder since Gazza, playing at the heart. As Harry Redknapp said after the game (about Gerrard) "They're killing him".
I'm just Amateur League managers level, but if you put him in his favourite position and give him the Captains armband the rewards will be reaped.
