Rangers situation in the EPL

If any of the TOP clubs in the EPL were to find themselves in the same situation as Glasgow Rangers, would our spineless authorities carry out the same procedure.

I think not.

Yes the procedure is set out in the rules , they don't make them up as they go along.
it's not over yet - next season's TV agreement (with Sky and ESPN) remains unsigned and may remain so, if there's no possibility of the usual 4 "old firm" fixtures being screened as part of that deal.

there's talk of "SPL2"; whilst that might be a step too far for some, there's still a real possibility of a "fudge" deal to allow the scottish FA to save face, and permit Rangers to play attractive competitive football next season.
teams in england have gone into administration countless times too many to name.

feel sorry for rangers fans,

didn't recognize them under the name newco on sky sports news.

they may not make them up as they go but its blatantly obvious that some are given more favour than others
yes ronni those with no financial or influential backbone
I would struggle to see the relevant authorities relegating Man United or one of the top four.

I also await with interest to see what UEFA will do when their new financial rulings kick in? I doubt they will punish Man Utd, Real or everybody's favourite love in, Barca to any great degree, but expect teams from smaller countries to get hammered as an "example".
?? The fact that no PL club has ever been liquidated make it mute, however if such as Man U ever started out as a new club they would have to start from the bottom tier of the pyramis as have, Aldershot and Accrington Stanley.

On what do you base spineless?
they have made their bed..time to lie in it !!! feel sorry for wee Ally though !!
I would contend that Rangers did not "make their bed", rather that thousands of fans have been let down by the lies and deceit of David Murray and, to a lesser extent, Craig Whyte.

However, Ally has emerged with great credit, leading from the front with great dignity.
Makes the SPL a bit of a one horse race now though, don't you think ?.
Ther bookies are offering 1/50 on Celtic and Rangers.

Says it all really.

I said all along that the clubs should be careful what they wished for and now some are whining that Rangers omission from the SPL means they are in danger of going bust/into administration. Really? Well then, who voted them out of the SPL in the first place?

I struggle to have any sympathy, and this is one of the reasons I wanted to go to the Third Dvision in the first place.
I so agree with Duncer. The media in their glee to stick the knife into, not just Rangers but the likes of Leeds. Portsmouth etc seem to forget that the real victims are the fans.

The fans are the real club, they have seen boards and players come and go. So in the case of Rangers its the fans who really suffer.

McCoist has really made me rethink my opinion of him, Rangers have been so lucky to have a man who has displayed both dignity and sympathetic understanding og the plight of all concerned.
I so wish that Rangers were run the same way as Linfield, where no one person can ever own the club. That way we might have avoided the ego trips and financial shennanigans of Murray and Whyte, and Leeds might not have suffered the ignominy of the ever churlish and boorish Ken Bates.
The Scottish Clubs and Authorities may have taken the fairest course (though their motives are debatable) but the result will be that half the SPL will go out of business and Scottish football will be bankrupt. Will anyone notice?
As I said before, they should have been careful what they wished for.

A bit harsh Gromit, lots of fans up here will notice, and care very much if their club goes out of business. Just because there is a smaller population doesn't mean that the football is worthless. I believe that, pro rata, Scottish football is better supported, and that's without the obscene wealth of the Premier League and Sky TV.
but Sky do pay for Scottish football...
Duncer,

Apologies, was a bit harsh. But the reality is that many are under threat by recent decisions. I think we we see many clubs go under. Ending up with two pro leagues similar to the EPL and Championship in England.

Last November SKY bid a deal that was worth about £110million. That deal is now sunk. And SKY will pay a fraction of that for what remains. Gate money will be drastically reduced in the SPL without Rangers. Advertising revenue will be down and the quality of players will diminish as Scottish Clubs will not be able to afford anyone decent. It will be four years at the earliest before Pheonix Rangers are back in the topflight. I don't think a lot of clubs will last that long.
Gromit, I agree entirely with the points you make; that's why I said that the clubs should have been more careful what they wished for. That is by no means an attempt to exonerate Rangers from punishment, punishment was necessary, but hatred, bigotry and short-sightedness played a major role when it came to determining the club's future, and I think clubs were slightly misguided to "listen to the fans" as many did. I have always argued that fans should play a bigger role so that might seem slightly hypocritical, bu fans are emotive and not always best judged to make decisions, just as managers are never best placed to judge a referee straight after a game.

Rangers fans are already discussing a boycott of the more vociferous clubs if/when the club returns to the higher echelons. The Sky deal will have a devastating effect if it is withdrawn, as most suspect, but it would have the same effect in England if it was withdrawn. Football is far too depedent on television money and I am already sick of clubs up here blaming Rangers if they potentially go to the wall, when they haven't even reached that juncture. One - they voted Rangers out and two - Rangers cannot be responsible for other clubs corporaste mismanagement in any shape or form.

Gate money could be reduced further if Celtic go 30 points clear as Celtic fans will see no point in forking out £27 quid for an waya fixture when the league is as good as won, and I suspect their home gates may drop for the same reason. The SFA have missed a golden opportunity to restructure into two leagues of 18, perhaps 16, for the future good of the game and, by putting Rangers in the second tier they would still have been demoting them to the bottom while potentuially preserving the Sky deal. Then again, it was the smaller SPL clubs who blocked this move to two leagues for years as they were afraid of losing two visits from each of the OF.
Average SPL attendance last year was 13,855 but, without the OF, it was 6,235.

Well done Dundee as they have pegged their season ticket prices at the level they would have been had they not been promoted. A nice gesture to their fans.
