Should A Soldier Pray To God?

Should a soldier pray to God before going into battle, when he is determined to do his duty, fight for his country, but is understandably scared nevertheless?

Definitely.

From the time when Abraham created Him, God enjoyed nothing better the worship by those who sought to kill in His name.

God remains an integral part of death cultures across the planet today.

I believe if you feel the need to pray then you should, Arthur Rostron prayed constantly en-route to assist the Titanic I'm sure it helped him to focus his attention to the task that lay before him.

Pity that God didn't listen then!

Yes.

Also to keep the rabbit foot safe, throw salt over the left shoulder and other superstitious rites.

Carpathia arrived safely at the site and in the nick of time to save many lives (which presumably was what Rostron prayed for), Titanic's design flaws were known at the time (even the Wellin davits were designed to carry a full compliment of life boats) God did'nt drive that ship into an iceberg, people did.
BTW Theland1 did you know that Arthur Rostron lived in Chester?

I think, if a soldier is a believer, then yes he/she should.

While I was in the forces, you didn't have a choice, when not in a combat zone, Church parades were mandatory for all who professed the Christian faith on enlisting, and anyone who didn't want to worship, had to stand to attention outside the Chapel, but i've been out now for thirty two years, so I would hazard a guess that the mandatory bit has probably been abolished,

I wouldn't say he should pray to God, because I don't believe it would make the slightest difference. However, if he believes in God and is afraid and vulnerable, and prayer gives him some comfort, then why not? I don't believe in this God, but who are any of us to deny another human being comfort in his hour of need? If this is what gives him solace, then so be it.

If it gives them courage and settles their fear, I would say they could pray to the two headed tree-frog god for all that mattered, if that is what they wanted or felt was needed.

Nobody should be denied their belief, nor ridiculed for it, if that is what brings them comfort. I think beso has some sort of theist-envy.

Blimey, for once I agree with Octavius, but only with his first paragraph.

Otherwise ruby27 has it: whatever superstition makes you feel more comfortable, grab it.

Such is the fickle nature of your intrinsic intolerance chakka.

Let he (or she) who wants to overcome their fear take advantage of whatever belief or superstition provides them that comfort. But take the pi$$ out of them for it.

Very progressive of you I must say.

Every one prays (supplicate) sometime in his/her life. Few people just do not admit it.

What is a supplication but an expression of one's total and utter humbleness, helplessness, weakness, inferiority and lowliness before the Infinite Power and Might of Allah (God)? supplication is the very essence of worship itself! The one who recognize their Lord remain constant in remembering and supplicating him; and the unfortunate ones who recognize not their Lord Creator and His Infinite Power and Might, erroneously assume themselves to be self-sufficient.

After all human brain does play tricks.

So moral of the story let the soldier pray he is not harming anyone is he?
