Installing Windows 98 On Modern Pc

Had old PC running Windows Millennium for the drivers it had for my Nikon slide scanner with which I was digitising my (large) slide collection.
The PC finally gave up the ghost & a friend kindly lent me his PC.
He had installed new motherboard, processor and memory c. 2007.
I transferred the HD from my old machine, formatted it & attempted to install Win 98.
The first prob I hit was that 98 wouldn't work with the 2 gig memory installed. Removed 1 gig & as advised on Microsoft Knowledge base, modified "System.ins" file to limit perceived memory to 750 mb.
This allowed me to install 98 but it would only open in "safe mode" & got the message "drives A & C are using MS-Dos compatibility file systems."
Any ideas how to proceed please.

Wouldnt it be cheaper and a lot less fuss to buy a modern slide scanner - I paid about £59 - when I`d finished with it I sold it on for £45

Thanks "CrapAtCrptics"but there is a related issue. The old PC also had the drivers for a very nice photo printer that I have together with some expensive ink.

There is also a little nostalgia in the mix.
you should be able to install the printer drivers anyway in compatibility mode.plus if you post the make and model of the photo printer i may be able to help further
thanks Cleggie. As the machine is running in "Safe Mode" it does not allow access to the D drive so I cannot install the drivers that I have on the original disks for both the printer and the slide scanner.
The printer is a Canon 8200 photo. I have used this with Windows XP but I think the computer used Microsoft generic drivers and the printed photos were vastly inferior to those printed using the correct Canon drivers.

sorry about the last post as "chorley9" - my wife's computer was on & I used that not realising that the post would be in her name (she never seems to log out of anything !) Thanks once again Cleggie.

HI Fender62 - Thanks for your post. Unfortunately, although the printer will run on other versions of Windows (have run it on XP) I can only get a decent quality photograph print using the original Canon drivers and they will not load onto OS's after Millennium. Although this is an old printer, with the correct drivers, things, like for example, skin tones, are excellent.
