No worries. It was interesting.
I do hope some of the god-squad on this website have a look at this video and come back to comment on it. They don't really have a leg to stand on, do they ?
But, as it says somewhere in somebody's scriptures, there's none so blind as those who will not see.
//I do hope some of the god-squad on this website have a look at this video and come back to comment on it.//
What would be the point of that? You sound to be another one of the prejudiced who have no problems with forming your opinions, relying as they probably do on such flimsiness for confirmation, and have no need to either learn nor understand anything at all about such matters.
Carry on and don't worry about it.
Khandro - you see 'flimsiness', I see an unarguable point.

Thanks retrocop - most enlightening.
Ho Ho Ho !!!..... The Daily Cartoonist ....... LOOK ! ... If the people I'm trying to ridicule don't say the things I want them to , I can draw cartoons of them and make them say those things anyway !!! Isn't that intellectually brilliant !!!
andy-hughes; Perhaps with your new found 'enlightenment' you might see that in this juvenile video, which is aimed at, and made by, the simple-minded, that the words of the cartoon character 'theists', are fabricated for them by an atheist! a most extraordinary method of debate, I bet you think Punch and Judy are real people too.
Similar videos have been produced by theists, and I agree that parody isn't always helpful.

But, that said, the key point of the video is the "Which God?" argument. I don't think theists can find a proper resolution to this one.
benhilton/khandro, you've ridiculed the video, but you haven't ventured to address the very valid point it makes. Can't think why. ;o)
Links(as ever) won't work for me. My favourite is Stephen Fry being asked about God by Gaye Byrne, easy find on youtube.

My enlightenment is not 'new found', I've had it since I was in my early teens.

No I don’t think Punch and Judy are real people, what a very strange observation.

What I do think is that your post reflects a typical Christian point of view – you ridicule and laugh at people who see the world differently from you, which, by supreme irony, is not at all Christian.
andy-hughes; //My enlightenment is not 'new found', I've had it since I was in my early teens.//
Then just what was it that enlightened you at 16:47?

//What I do think is that your post reflects a typical Christian point of view//

What makes you think I am a typical Christian? You haven't the slightest idea of where I stand. I don't think you know much about religion, and probably not even much about atheism.
The narrowness of the term 'Atheism' engaged in by the video is indeed a very valid point.
Khandro - //What makes you think I am a typical Christian? You haven't the slightest idea of where I stand. //

Let's see - confrontational attitude over faith challenged? Check.
Slightly superior attitude when addressing non-believers? Check.
Unspoken belief that you have something I need? Check.
Built-in default belief that you must know more about religion than I? Check.

Yup, I'd say your stance is pretty clear - and in my view you are a typical Christian.

What's to know about atheism?

I don't believe in God. The end.

It's so much simpler than the struggle you are saddled with.

andy-hughes;

Doesn't sound very Christian to me - Islamist perhaps?

//belief that you must know more about religion than I? Check.//

That might be true as you "found enlightenment in your early teens", and despite me having a large library of books covering all world religions, all read and referred to over many years, I wouldn't say I am by any means fully enlightened.

//What's to know about atheism?//

Quite a lot actually, and there's considerable disagreement among its proponents.

There is little else to say between us on this subject I believe - you have a faith which supports you, and I think that is a wonderful thing, I simply don't share it.

I have opined many times on here, it is not Christianity I find it hard to live with - it's Christians, and their endless chippiness when their faith is questioned, even slightly, and their overwhelming 'I have something you need ... ' patronising.

But the world is big enough for all of us - and that is even better.
Khandro, //What's to know about atheism?//

What?
Naomi - //Khandro, //What's to know about atheism?//

What? //

I did wonder that as well.

The dictionary definition of atheism is - 'A belief that there is no God'.

Personally, I'd struggle to expand on that!
