What do you think of these words of love from the peace-loving religious community?

Such impressive eloquence, have to love them a little bit don't you.

Yep, gawd bless em ...and I bet they're not aborigines ;-)
Haaaaaaaaaa! Oh that the religious possessed an equal sense of humour!
Many do Naomi.
Can't say I've noticed it around here.
Read Dawkins, and you get elegant logic and reasoned argument, which most intelligent people have to admire.
Listen to these ignorant ranters and you get filth, insults and non-sequiturs, which you can only deplore.
Nobody can take seriously such ad hominem remarks which bear no resemblance to any kind of argument.
Do these idiots have no idea how blatantly they are exposing their own stupidity ?
Clearly not. I doubt very much that those letters were written to elicit the reaction they received.

"Do these idiots have no idea how blatantly they are exposing their own stupidity ?"
My guess is that the poor disillusioned souls *don't know* that they're stupid. Of course a few may not be but those ones are probably sociopaths perched behind their windows banging out the classics on an old Hammond organ awaiting that terrible moment when Edward Scissorhands topiarises satan into their hedge.
"Basted in the broth of God's righteous indignation..."
Surely that's funny.
I wrote it in green ink, too. ^
quite funny,
// Read Dawkins, and you get elegant logic and reasoned argument //

Not at all. He's a world-class biologist, but his understanding of religion is at the level of an 11- or 12-year-old. If I had the brass neck to criticise the work of biologists with as little understanding of biology as he has of religion, I'd be making as big a fool of myself as he does. His logic only looks good to people whose understanding of religion is at about the same level as his, and who already share his prejudices. Unfortunately, that's a lot of people . . .

I can't stop religious extremists making fools of themselves with over-the-top criticisms of Dawkins, but it's despicable when Dawkins supporters interpret such trash as representing the views of all religious people. They don't.

Sorry, I should have worded it : "from SOME MEMBERS of the OTHERWISE peace-loving religious community".
I didn't mean to imply that these arris-holes represent ALL of the religious community.
bert, I’ve no doubt those letters are not representative of all the religious community, but you’re making a mistake in assuming that Richard Dawkins doesn’t understand religion. I’d hazard a guess that he understands it to a far greater extent than the faithful – which is why is he an atheist.
atalanta - "... Do these idiots have no idea how blatantly they are exposing their own stupidity?"

This question rather reminds me of the Kruger/Dunning paper called, "Unskilled and Unaware of It: How Difficulties in Recognizing One's Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessments"

http://goo.gl/dllDrW

The basic conclusion was, "... not only do they [people with limited knowledge] reach mistaken conclusions and make regrettable errors... their incompetence robs them of the ability to realize it...".
Question Author
...then again, as it says in Desiderata "listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story".
Given that I'd just been watching the clip, below, I was already in a lighthearted mood but the Dawkins vid was still funnier, by far.

Incidently, if the religious types really are right but they've wished a serious disease or some bizarre fate such as "a flame-thrower accident" on a fellow human, which way are they headed?

Naomi24 - // you’re making a mistake in assuming that Richard Dawkins doesn’t understand religion //

We have an irreconcilable difference of opinion there, Naomi. He understands religion at his own rather puerile level, and in line with his own prejudices. However, because he's a world-class scientist and author, he has the knack of making it sound convincing. I'm sorry you've been taken in, but I can see why.
Will Bert H please tell us which of Dawkins' books he has read ?
