On news pictures showing Muslims at prayer in mosques I notice that it is all men doing so, are ladies not allowed there?

women pray separately

They don't even publicly eat with the men, never mind pray with them.
I live in Saudi Khandro and can assure you couples go out to eat just like we do in the west. Only single men are segregated in fast food outlets.
Regards the eating out "thing" I think it depends who you are with. If it`s your husband I`m sure you can eat out together in some places and I have been out in Saudi and eaten with colleagues. The restaurant was Lebanese and we had to sit in little alcoves with screens. But I have also gone out to eat in Bahrain and been pretty pissed off to be shoved into the "family area" with the women kids.
Just a guess but it is likely that the news crew are male and consequently cannot enter the women's area of the mosque.
meglet; I was once invited to a meal in a large Muslim house in Baroda along with a friend who was the the head of a faculty of the university and his wife, (both Hindu and educated in London) and to his, and my dismay, not only did his wife have to eat separately with the other women, they had to eat when we men had finished! they had prepared the food and were effectively eating the left-overs.
A very unenjoyable meal!
In synagogues too, women are segregated from men. It always seems quite strange to me to attend a joyous occasion like a wedding, for example, and find myself surrounded by women upstairs and my husband downstairs with the men. Christianity does have its positive points. ;o)
If I could capture an image of this page I'd print it and have it framed. :-)
And me...
SandyRoe, I know it's possible. Why not post a question in Technology to ask how it's done?
PrtSc
[Ctrl/ Print Screen/Paste ] should do it Naomi lol.
There you go sandyRoe. Sorted!! Well done Jim.
I've just subscribed to the question. Whenever, in the future, I come to think my eyes were deceiving me I'll be able to look back and see they weren't.
I think perhaps it's just the effects of the heat Sandy ;-)
Sharingan, Sandy wants to know - not me.
sandyRoe, subscribing is not enough. The thread will disappear from your subscribed list after a month, so best do as Jim suggests. ;o)
Meglet, I lived 3 years in Saudi and you should specify that by 'couples' you mean married couples or family couples. A male and female can not eat together unless they are married or part of the same family . A boy and his girl friend can not eat or be together in public as they can in the west. The penalty for doing so would be a public flogging or worse !
Bahrain is a bit better you can get away with eating a meal with someone of the opposite sex there, you can even get a drink ! I have been to Bahrain 13 times.
I hope it's not a reflection of my contributions to Answerbank, Naomi, that that's your best-ever reception of a post of mine!
