Why are people that have lost their religion or don't believe in god so interested in religion?

I use quite a few sites and it's interesting to see that those who once were religious and aren't no more or those that don't believe in god have a lot to say on the subject. Me if i don't believe in something and have no interest in it especially if i see it as a web of lies, full of hatred and something that i wasted too much of my life on, i would be happy to never talk about it again, or are those that don't believe in god maybe have a tiny atoms weight of belief hence their constant interest on the matter, something that they cannot completely shun as it's a tiny flame that refuses to go out? Also those that don't believe in god seem to poo poo religious lots who force their views down non religious peoples throats yet the anti-god brigade do exactly the same in reverse, constantly trying to discredit and foist their non beliefs down religious peoples throats.

I guess it may be similar to smoking.

Often the most anti-smoking people are those that have been heavy smokers in the past.
Because it surrounds us. My mother is a born again Christian. She can barely string a sentence together without mentioning God.
Because these religions affect so many things in our lives whether we believe or whether we don't, religion is taught in schools as fact, where it clearly isn't fact. A bad practice needs to stamped out just like paedophilia does!

Religion is responsible for deaths around the world on a daily basis, usually carried out my Muslims but no religion is innocent of these crimes.
Know your enemy?
I think you are making a false assumption. Most of us who don't believe in gods are not interested in religion so much as fascinated by religious people, and the lengths they go to to fool themselves.
Aren't you falling into the same trap as those you are criticising (well saying you don't understand at least)? That is of not understanding how anyone could possibly have different views/attitudes to yourself?

Life, the meaning and origins thereof, are of interest to all and will spark debate - you really don't want to try to suppress it, prevent discussion of it, etc.
Its really simple, there is no god, however the church interferes in our lives on a daily basis. i.e This weekend is a great example I can't go shopping on Sunday, why? Because we have to celebrate a mythical execution.

Religion continues to pontificate about the morality in society and for some reason all of our politicians subscribe to the great superstion.

You may ask yourself why have you posed the question If you are so secure in your faith what harm can we do, so why rattle your bars.

You miss a salient point there is nothing to discredit. The problem here is that you have an unarguble argument, cannot answer the questions posed and always revert back to the book, which lies to all.

What you actualy mean is shut up your making me uncomfortable and question my faith.

That is true vhg.
Ummmm many things surround us but we don't involve ourselves so emotionally and deeply as some do when it comes to religion.
Ratter so you're the self appointed *Religion police*? Also you said *Religion is responsible for deaths around the world on a dailybasis* This is true, but so is crime, political murders and serial killers so why the focus on religion or indeed anti religion?
Rojash you said * Most of us who don't believe in gods are not interested in religion so much as fascinated by religious people, and the lengths they go to to fool themselves.* Rojash so you would waste your time, effort and monmey on studying *Fools*? For what benefit to you exactly?
Why the post then?
Maybe because some of us have been brought up to not question it and now realise how blind people are.

I can't say too much on the subject as I haven't read the bible or the koran. It's fascinating though.
Shizoid >>>Ratter so you're the self appointed *Religion police*?<<< I thought I just answered your question, sorry was it the wrong answer?

>>>>This is true, but so is crime, political murders and serial killers so why the focus on religion or indeed anti religion?<<<< What makes you think I only focus on religion?

So are going to have a go at everybody that gives an answer to your question?

It's an interesting subject, I just want to know what are peoples real underlying motives regarding anti religion. Is it that with those who were once believers, they feel that they've been duped all of their lives by religion and now the shackles of illusion are off they're actually trying to help those in religion see the *lies*? Is this a form of compassion?
To those who have never believed in god is this nothing more than trying to get a fellow *Intelligent mind* to see the clear fact that the *Sky fairy* does not exist, as in a wake up and smell the coffee, how can you be so stupid?

Ratter no whatever answer you give is the right answer for you and me.
Sorry if you think i'm having a go (I'm not) I'm just trying to understand this, i come in peace i assure you :)
Shizoid people believe in their faith, so it isn't "lies". A lie is a known untruth. Religion is a historical belief. I cannot understand why any rational being can believe in something, based on pure faith no proof.

If one examines the "mechanics" of faith, it is seen to be contradictory andriddle with man made interference. If you look at Islam, the interpretation is man made, so if you take the true rational, even as a believer, you are not following god you are following man, who is using "the word of god" for his own gain.

If you like I argue to see if I can make the scales from the eyes to see the rational.
I agree it is an interesting subject, Personally I just cannot understand why anybody with an ounce of intelligence would believe in such a ridiculous story of virgin births, 400 year old man building an ark to house thousands of animals from all over the world that apparently walked to this ark, talking snakes, creating a woman from a mans rib, A god that created everything in 6 days and yet it takes 3 months to destroy it again, A god that creates everything yet cannot manage to create humans as nice people so he has kill them all rather than just make them turn good. Absolute Madness the lot of it!!!
Ratter, don't forget the human race is supposedly evolved from ONE couple who as far as I can see only ever had male children???????

*. Ratter are these books the bible, torah and koran meant to be taken literally or maybe all these things are metaphors with different meanings but then why would someone write and expect others especially those that were poor anfd uneducated to understand a book which is essentually a cryptic riddle?
I don't believe but neither do I hate or ridicule the believers.

Baldric According to wiki this was said *Chapter four of Genesis tells of the birth of Cain and Abel, Adam and Eve's first children, while chapter five gives Adam's genealogy further. Later came Seth, and " OTHER SONS AND DAUGHTERS" (Genesis 5:4, NIV). Adam lived for 930 years (Genesis 5:5).*
and im guessing that you are a muslim and will now be joining the like of Sith and Keyplus and probably spend hours copying and pasting quotes from the Bible to prove a point.

We have seen it many times and if this is the case, give it up, you wont be convincing anybody of anything.

If this is not the case then I apologise and look forward to your discussions.
