Can some please advise In the past few days I have received repeated calls from
061249453505 - concerning claims.
The caller wishes me to confirm my identity (I don't know where they got my name from in the first place) to proceed with further information. I am on telephone preference service and do not expect such 'cold' calls and advised them of this on the first occasion but they are still ringing, today they said it was not a cold call but refused to give any more information about the reason for contacting me unless I confirmed I was the person they wished to speak to. I declined and put down the receiver. Is there somewhere I can report this or get it stopped or can anyone one reassure me - it is starting to worry me somewhat.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to pose this question

boxtops - I use http://whocallsme.com/

They don't do anything other than let you vent about these phone calls. I find it usefull to check any strange numbers.

What company do they claim to be representing?

That's my problem I do not know
Someone on here about a week ago was commenting on these calls. They started with 06 as well. I think they come from abroad. Can`t find the thread.
i have just phoned that number and just get the message this number has not been recognized
I would confirm that I was 'me' to get passed the first hurdle.
Then once I'd sorted out who and what they are I'd tell them to take a running jump.......
I dont think international calls have to comply with the TFS... if you want to annoy them - you could accept the call... then ask them to hold on a second.. while you answer the front door - then just leave the phone on the side!

dont answer any of their questions though.. better to be safe!!
I take it you have 'caller display' so when that number rings lift the receiver then replace it immediately. I've done this in the past and they soon get the message. Don't let it worry you though, regard it as a game that you don't intend to lose!

I don't think the call is from abroad as this usually shows up as 'international' on my phone and if questioned callers say they don't have to comply TPS as nosha123 said. Recently it flashed up international and the caller said he was ringing from the UK. Is there a quick way to check an area code ie 06124
The Isle of Man is 01624 ladyalex. The number here is 06124, 2nd and 3rd digits the other way around.
Are you sure that number is correct . ?
01624 is IOM, yes.
06124 not found anywhere else on web.
Tell them to write to you.

If they are genuine, they will surely have your address. If not, hang up again.
I wish I could find it, there is a website where people who are harassed by phone calls can compare notes - I did it when I kept getting calls and I found that hundreds of other people were doing so, too. That's when I joined Call Preference Service and it's nearly all stopped - no more cold calling.
I had a phone call from EDF last night, I suspect they wanted to sell me gas, but when the chap asked me to confirm my address, and I told him that if they'd got my name and knew I have my electricity from them, and I was receiving bills OK so they already knew my address, he terminated the call.
I'll keep looking for that website.

Wendy, here you are, this is the site I was looking for. I typed in the number you gave and there is already one report of someone being called on it. You might want to join in in case someone can identify it - at least it flags it up for other people.

A response I posted yesterday is not showing where I corrected the phone number (shoiuld be 01612494505)and gave my further info. via whocallsme .com I discovered that the calls were coming from B2B telemarketing (yesterday they were the top advert on this site under this box!!!) and a website which professes to be much better than BT preference service (they charge £39 per year and the price is also given in Australian currency Whickerman!!!) In the meantime I was directed to BT nuisance calls and they are to stop this company calling again. It is a relief to know who they are and suspect they have my name from my recent searches for car insurance. My sincere thanks to all who posted to help
0161 is Manchester. Glad you've got it sorted
