wedding venue help

We are getting married next summer in Jamaica and would like a party venue for friends and family to celebrate with us when we get back, there will be about 70-100 people attending, and we like the idea of asking people to bring buffet food instead of wedding presents, as we have everything we need already and very little budget left. Is this socially acceptable?

i'm picturing somewhere where we can have a Caribbean style band and where we can wear informal dress.

Needs to be in close proximity to Bournemouth ideally

With the current financial climate i think you are having a great idea in buffet food instead of presents you possibly dont want or need!

My brother in law got married a couple of years ago and asked for argos vouchers so they could buy stuff for a house that already had everything - Im sure they bought the kids christmas presents with the vouchers instead which isnt right to my mind!!

Hope you have a lovely day

Hi Tazmac25

Your brother in law sounds a bit of a scamp lol

We dont really need anything for our home and dont want people wasting their money on gifts so thought bringing a dish to a get together is a good idea. Plus I dread to think how much we all spend on wedding gifts ever year, there are 4 of us getting married in my family in 2009 nall within 3 months, so thought this seemed more sensible.

Someone has suggested hiring a marquee somewhere and a steel band, now struggling to find a location!

3D Marquees can not only supply great party marquees, but can also source a marquee venue in Bournemouth and theme it out with palm trees, and even sort out a steel band, as they are really involved with the pan necktar group at notting hill carnival.

hope this helps
