Baby on Board

Why do people have these signs showing in the rear window of their car ?

Are they saying that I must drive carefully when I'm behind them , because they have a baby on board ?

Well , excuse me , but I drive carefully whether you have a baby on board or not .

I think the original idea for the baby on board signs was that they may alert emergency services should the vehicle be involved in an accident.

Trouble is no-one takes them out when they dont have the children on board.

I'm sure the rescue services often waste time searching for an infant , when in fact there isn't one in the car

If the sign said "Mother-in-law on board" do you think the emergency services would not bother?

I think it was originally a German practice, for the reason redcrx said: so rescuers won't just look for adults. But yes, nobody in Britain seems to have got the hang of it, they just leave them in the car when baby's grown up

I can't stand these things - oh look at me, I've had a child, aren't I wonderful, but please be careful, don't you dare crash in to me.

My closest friend has been in the fire service for 20 odd years, and he reckons these signs have absolutely nothing to do with alerting the emergency services as a thourough search is always made anyway.

Can't stand the derivatives either - Little Princess on Board, Cheeky Monkey on Board et al.

We were given a couple when our first child came along and I steadfastly refused to have them in the car.

Also, have you noticed the cars which have "Babe On Board" signs are invariably driven by women that could be described as a lot of things, but Babe would not certainly not be one of them?

Driving an old rusty mini and it says in the rear window.

My other car is a Rolls Royce.

Tells me the person is never satisfied with what he has got. And he or she is living for others and not for themselves. Lack of confidence in other words.

Actuallly the whole bumper sticker mentality is pretty similar to vanity number plates thing.

The need to announce something about you own personality to the world.

I really don't think the world is any more interested that you have children than it is that you think you're DA 8055 or are christian

Actually Jake - the thing about number plates that make me smile , are the ones where letters are made to look like numbers or vice versa and/or grouped in certain ways .

Really?

I tend to think "There goes another pr@t in search of attention!"

Make the most of it Bertie there's a big clamp down on illegally spaced number plates on it's way

I was under the impression that the person in this car in front may be driving very carefully because there's a baby on board, so not to pip, lose patience - so I got it all wrong!

i had one of these baby on board signs for that reason, i drove much slower and even more carefully when my son was born so i hoped it told other drivers why and they might not get so annoyed!

aims1202, did you not drive carefully before that, then? Does safety on the road matter only once you have a child in your car?
What do you do when your son isn't with you? Drive too fast and carelessly?
