During a discussion, someone made the assertion that people on benefit get an extra £4 per week if they have a dog, and that homeless people shared the dogs to get more money.
Now I am pretty sure that this is untrue, but wanted to know if anyone knows for definite.

In some areas people on benefits do still get free - or discounted - animal care/vet services.

I think the benefit system wouldprobably penalise you for having a dog ,claiming that you had an asset you could use for food and thus need less to live on for a while
