Are you referring to 'liturgical East'?
It's when the priest/congregation faces East because all the churches were built to face the rising sun as a symbol of the resurrection and also because Jesus would return to Jerusalem, which was also in the East.

It's east, because pagans worshipped the rising sun.

depends where you're standing. It's usually towards the east end, but if you're behind it you'll be facing west
