Protocol and dress for a Hindu wedding

My wife and I (both white British) have been invited to a formal Hindu wedding in Birmingham, UK. Are there any particular dress codes which we should observe? Any advice would be welcome.

I am not Hindu. I am from Pakistan but weddings are almost same in both countries and cultures apart from religious ceremonies. I can say that weddings in Asian people are very colorful. If you are white (as you said) then try wearing Indian/Pakistani dress (Shalwar Kammez). People really like that specifically when worn by white woman. I know that as my own wife is white English.

Yes one more things, usually Asian wedding ceremonies are not bang on time. 8 means 10 sometime so don't be there before even the family has arrived.

I hope it would help.

I went to a Sikh wedding a few years ago and I was advised to keep my head covered during the ceremony. It may have been shoulders aswell, but can't remember. I know that all the white British women there had brought scarves or shawls to wear during the service. I didn't wear Indian/Pakistani dress, just what I would call 'normal' wedding wear and Mr Spudqueen wore a suit.

Nearly forgot! The bride wore red so as in Britain it's frowned upon for a guest to wear white I wouldn't wear red at an Asian wedding.

If I were you, I'd just ask the advice of someone related to the bride/groom or one of their friends.
