Is there a psychologist out there?

leelapops - I wasn't implying anything - I said that I might be speaking for myself! Others have said about hiding from callers though! x

I did, ray. Nice and warm now, though. :)
Hi, skyep, hun. :)

Very interesting thread .....I am quite happy with my own company .But ..the older I get I value the company of true friends and family more than people that I just have a nodding aquaintance with .
When we lived in abroad it used to be a nightmare ..we were always having to go somewhere and eat vast amounts of food and visit this relative and that relative. It was a social whirl and so regimentated .
Then the work dos and all that small talk with people who I had no interest in whatsoever ....screeeeam!
Mind you this was many years ago. Mr S reckons that living in England is much more laid back .
.If he's away for a few days my brothers descend on me as if I am not capable of functioning alone and want me to go here there and everywhere when I am quite content to poodle round doing my own thing .But I humour them because I love them .
I love the family get together because it's family and I value my good friends and love their company . But I can quite happily live in my own pocket .
And yes I have been guilty of hiding when unexpected callers turn up because I hate being caught on the hop unless of course it's a family member who is quite used to seeing me in disarray.
....we can't go through life completely alone and I certainly wouldn't use somebody for my own ends .I find that a bit selfish . BTW ....How do you know people are talking rubbish if you are not prepared to talk to them unless they are useful to you ?

Just back and reading over this thread for an update.
I have to admit, Hubby and muself are a bit like Ray and Wife.
Both have to be sociable during the day at work, but when we get home, we are happy with each other's company, whether it is out for a drink or staying in.
Picking up on Skyep hiding, (laughing) I hate the telephone. I feel it invades my space and absolutely hate it when I am at home.
Don't do tlephones or text messages at all. Emails yes, no problems, but I just detest having to drop everything when a phone rings. WE do socialise on holiday, but can take it or leave it.

Another good reason for now answering the door to uninvited callers- just opened the door to a smartly dressed couple who asked me if I preferred white or brown bread. When I answered white, they lectured me on the health benefits of wholemeal bread.- blinkin Hovis witnesses. xxx

Bath, I LOVE it! hahaha...Got that in a text recently.
skyep, it is fab, no? I am relatively new to it in that the 'first wave' didn't catch me...But I am devoted now!
Whiskey, haha...Or Barry White maybe?
ray, darn right you do! ;) How's things? Have you made any career decisions?
andrea, I was just kidding hun...I am set for a spinster life, except with a partner! I love to chat to my woofer, and I am a keen player of "dodge the visitor"!
shaney, I always thought England was less laid back than other countries! It's very interesting to hear your experiences.

For a bunch of anti-socialites you lot sure can chat.

China I know, we are a disgrace to the miserable gits' anti-social society!
x

|
|
Yeah China , we can- but that just illustrates the point does it not? We don't have to maintain eye-contact, or nod at appropriate times,or try to appear interested when we're really bored to death. Let's face it- in many verbal conversations, all we're doing is waiting for the other person to stop talking so we can chip in! x

Quite true Bathsheba. I'm actually quite a sociable little bunny myself but I have my moments and when those happen I wont even go near my emails and the only living things that can be tolerated are Tilly (the dog) and Dotty (the cat). And even then they need to keep the noise down.

and Bathsheba I can sit here with my feet soaking in a bowl, curlers in & teeth out & nobody knows, hehe
