Frozen Urine?

My fella says that there have been incidents where lumps of frozen urine have fell from aircraft and killed people. I say this is an urban myth. Please settle the argument!!!

Hi,

Simply not true. When the toilet aboard an Aeroplane is used, the " waste " is stored in tanks. These tanks are emptied on the ground - NOT in the air.

Although....

A woman in Yorkshire was killed by a shaft of frozen urine that came from a leaking tank. I bet she was really P^^^^^^ off at that !!!

Regards

Z
he's taking the myth...
Don't know about actually killing people, but there have been some near misses, This is just one of them, but if you Google 'Frozen Urine', you'll find a few instances there.

You'll find this one, near the bottom of the page.

Actually, the waste water mentioned by zharniwhoop (where do these names come from?) is held in tanks in the aircraft. However, the tanks are vented to allow for pressurization changes. The vents are designed to vent only air... but, because they can malfunction, sometimes the waste water mixes with the air venting overboard and begins to freeze. This can become quite a large lump measuring, in some instances, as much as two or three feet in diameter and weighing as much as 50 pounds or more. Usually, this simply melts as the aircraft descends into warmer air but they have been known to break off. Just a few days ago, here in the U.S., one fell off and came crashing through the roof of a house. Fortunately, no one was in the bedroom into which it fell, but the house suffered severe damage. Point is, some large part of this "blue water" is made up of urine, obviously...
I think this pictorial evidence will settle the argument once and for all.

Clanad, I think Zharniwhoop was a character in one of the Hitch Hikers Guide books.
Hi,

The person you refer to was my Father... Zarniwhoop. I am his son... Zharniwhoop.

Thank you for remembering my Father's great name.

It is traditional to insert an H when offspring are brought to the world.

Very best regards

We were pi$$ed on from a great height?
OR
Was it an act of God?
