what impossible standards? related to which aspect/s of marriage? what type of marriage? eg polygamous/monogamous, gay/ straight, arranged/ love match? Indeed do all people getting married have the same standards that they wish to achieve? Does the age at marriage make a difference?? So many differents types of marriage and so many different people..................

I was married 42 years ago in Church. ''For richer for poorer , for better or worse, in sickness and in health , I keep thee only to myself till death us do part'' That was the 'standard' I 'signed up' for and I have stuck to it ! So it's not impossible!

Are you suggesting that husbands should not be expected to keep their trousers zipped up if they see a pretty face ? That self-control should only apply to wives ?
If everyone who married made the necessary effort to keep their marriage vows, ( which they took willingly) noone would consider the usual marriage standards to be impossible.
