I would find an online site that gives both measurements and capacity then you can shop around knowing what you're looking for.
eg

this one

Large suitcase:

Size H78, W55, D33cm.
Weight 5.5kg.
105 litre capacity.

Type metric to litres into google search and you will get a conversion chart.
Maths isn't my forte, but aren't litres already metric?
Basic maths!

1 litre = 1000 cubic centimetres.

To find the capacity of your old suitcase, multiple the three internal measurements (in centimetres) together and divide by 1000. That assumes, of course, that it's a true cuboid. If it's got some curves you'll need to round down a bit.
Any of the big shops, Debenhams etc, sell suitcases with tags attached giving height, depth and width.
Take your tape measure with you when you go searching, especially if you intend to use budget airlines, sizes are different for hand luggage
