Nothing's 'going on' Mikey, just like there's nothing going on with recently reported deaths of famous people of a certain age. Stuff happens all the time, everywhere. Don't have nightmares.

Very sad, but it is not a new phenomenon- e.g. the Jamie Bulger killing

FF ....True but we seem to be having a rash of these lately. This one seems strange, with no obvious motive, at least none that I can find.
It is very sad but we'll have to wait and see the outcome.

I'd say it happens more often than we hear about.....as it did in the past.
Maybe, mikey- although I can't immediately recall what the other two cases were unless you mean the stabbing at a school in Scotland
the media are not allowed to name the accused, but I am willing to bet they know who they are, judging by the information concerning the family's situation that they have been able to glean, and have been permitted to publish. this suggests a scenario that's all to common and has in the past led to tragedy.
Which is, Mushroom?
It is indeed horrific. One wonders if this kind of thing is pre-planned or spur of the moment. Very hard to understand how children of that age would both agree with each other to carry out something so life-changing for all concerned.
At 14 they are old enough to know right from wrong, in their case they should be sent to prison for life and it should mean life with no release as they do in the USA, the problem with this country is there is NO deterrent against this type of crime, it's about time we started getting tough
Question Author
FF...I was thinking of that case where those two girls murdered that woman living on her own, and the one where that little child was abducted from the Primark shop.....all committed by older children.

I have always understood that murders and serious crimes, committed by children were very rare events.

nah, i'm not going to speculate.

but if you read all the available reports, a "domestic" situation begins to suggest itself.
Question Author
Mush...I see that two 14 year olds, boy and girl, are in custody in Spalding, but I haven't seen any scenario yet.

I am not asking for it by the way, just commenting on the rarity of children committing murders.
It's still rare, Mikey.
Some info is already leaking out about this pair, apparently the boy has always had 'issues' and the girl was fun loving until a recent act of bullying which upset her greatly she made friends with the boy and the rest has happened.

Very sad that 4 lives ended in the house that day.
Question Author
I agree Ummm, and long may it remain.

Good point Islay !
I'd say 2 lives ended 2 lives altered.
Question Author
I understood what Islay meant Anne.

Hi Mikey, this type of thing was discussed on Friday, and the usual apologists came out as they have again, with the usual comments, "it's always gone on", "what about Mary Bell", "Jamie Bulger", and we didn't have the media to report on such matters" etc etc.

Anything apart from admitting that their nice, safe and comfortable Britain, that they have dreamingly surrounded themselves with, no longer exists.

For goodness sake, AOG, pointing out that it's always happened doesn't make anyone an apologist!!
Question Author
AOg....alas, I think you maybe right there.
ummmm

/// It's still rare, Mikey. ///

Oh no it's not.

/// THE figures are shocking: nearly 400 children have been convicted of murder in the UK in the last two decades. ///

/// And the youngest was just 11 years
old. ///

/// Between 2008 and 2011, 81 children were convicted of the crime in England and
Wales. ///
