I've never been a lover of all this hugs and kisses on greeting people, I was not brought up to greet this way and I'm not sure that its the British way. I don't have a problem with it, I would rather just greet with a hand shake. What are your views?

No hugs and kisses from me, except for my family
I agree, it is not as if they only do it once. Just shake hands and say hello, that will do for me.
the japanese have got it sussed, bow on greeting ... no contact necessary

Oh families different
Remember when David Puttnam won an oscar for Chariots of Fire - he knew he did not want to kiss the presenter (Audrey Hepburn) because they had never met - but he said confronted with such an iconic beauty what else could her do - so he kissed her hand - very gallant
Absolutely ESSENTIAL. The Brits tend to be "cold fish " in that department whereas other European Countries e.g Spain are more tactile.

Yes I like the custom and it is a very important part of my life........noe I have left the UK.
I wouldn't hug or kiss a stranger when introduced.
tongues are not supposed to be involved sqad
BEST ANSWER? How do you know......there was only one reply?

AH!...because he/she agreed with you.....
Good answer aelmpvw. Gave me a chuckle anyway.
aelmpvw....LOL.
Neither would I, Mamyalynne, I think it's a horrible practice. I can't stand all this "Love you" business when people speak to their mums/ sisters/ friends on the phone, either. They've probably already spoken to them on the phone about six times that day, and seen them once or twice, but they still have to sign off with "Love you" every time. It's ridiculous and makes me reach for the sick bucket.

I agree entirely........but the OP isn't about that, it is about greeting (when you meet someone)
RATTER....it is for ME...and I find that it is pleasing on the eye and surely touching is a form of appreciation of "bonding" and we all know about the importance of bonding...don't we.
Sorry, Squad, I digressed, but all this unnecessary display of affection (either greeting, or signing off a phone call) is all tarred with the same brush as far as I'm concerned. Totally over the top.

OK ^^ I agree with the "love you " claptrap.........but the greeting......
I don't want to touch strangers' sweaty bodies, I'm afraid. I wish people would exercise some restraint.
Sqad, did you hug and kiss your patient's?
LOL.....only the females and only the "lookers."
