I've just got back from a requiem mass and I'm 'king knackered. With all the standing up and sitting down, responding and chanting, bells ringing, incense wafting, etc. I'm going for a lie down :-)

It was more like rain Mary. It's chucked it down all day, murrymints.
LOL....'king knackered" eh?

Why do the living do it to themselves at funerals?
Hail melv16
catholic conscience Sqad ! ..give 'em a good (and holy ) send off..then knees up !!
I am reminded of the Scottish verse:

Pisky, Pisky, loud amen,
Down on yer knees and up again.
Presby, Presby, dinna bend,
But sit ye doon on man's chief end.

Pisky = episcopalian, i.e. Anglican
Presby = Presbyterian.
Suffering is a cornerstone of the Catholic faith melv- along with guilt.

My wife and I had a full con-celebration (two priests) Nuptual Mass when we married - went on for ages, but they did provide two seats for us on the alter.
Not many full Requiems these days,usually a quick race through like an ordinary Mass.
Funerals often turn out to be a great craic.

There were over 600 there..standing room only. Hog roast and an Irish band at the wake.
andy..bless you my child !
there you go..good traditional Catholic send off !
My understanding of the word wake (watch) is the vigil the night before the funeral, not the ***-up afterwards.
vigil is the night before when the deceased is sat with in chapel..wake is knees up
Went to a Catholic funeral with a friend a few years ago and we got the giggles with all the sitting/standing palaver, then we were invited to greet the members of the congregation behind or to the side of us. Apparently they were saying "peace be with you", and not "pleased to meet you"....:/
