I've just read that organizers want to ban these headdresses from sale at the Glastonbury festival next year, as they apparently racist.

Personally I can't understand who would be offended or why.

Whats your opinion ?

It's not the done thing to appropriate someone's culture in this way.

So wheres it gonna stop. Are dream catchers and tepee's next and do I have to take off my moccasins that I wear with pride ?

As long as its done without dishonor, I can't see what the problem is.
No pow wows?
I would imagine that there will be teepee full of peace-pipes being used.

Can't see a problem with moccasins, but dream catchers? That does sound like taking over someone else's culture.

Someone better have a quiet word in Jay Kay's shell-like... if you can find it underneath all those Eagle plumes...
We should take our bowler-hats back. ;-(
Adopting things from another culture is providing diversity to one's own. It is inevitable.

If Chip's info is correct it would indicate once more how those unable to make sensible decisions tend to flow up the hierarchy until, to all our regret, they are the very ones making them.

So I presume the Lone Ranger and Tonto will be missing next year.
Tonto has a previous engagement for that time period; it's a bit of a sweet deal actually: he's going to take part in the reenactment of custard's last stand...I'm already wearing me hat and heading out the door:)
I have a little statuette of Ganesh(the elephant headed god) should it be hidden away somewhere?
Tonto means stupid in Spanish.

No-one owns a copyright on a culture. They may have originated it but anyone else is free to copy it, or use bits of it they like. If I want to stick a totem pole in my back garden and wear a kilt I'm free to do so.
ludwig, why not hang the kilt in the garden & stick the totem pole ---------
I'm having a mini ha ha here.

Someone's been on the laughing water....
i'm very sensitive about being accused of being a racist so my 'Native American-Style Headdress' has been assigned to the loft
I like to dress in the manner of famous authors.

But I've had to get rid of my Waugh bonnet...
That'll put 90% of the tat shops in the South West of USA out of business then!
