My 'local' pub is closing tomorrow, I have been a customer for the last 37 years. Not really a question more a moan. What the hell am I going to do now? We used to have 11 pubs in my small town now we are down to 4 and the nearest is over on the other side of town, too far to walk at 3 miles away.
The Pool and darts teams will be homeless from tomorrow as well both the other pubs that have a pool/darts team play in the same league so they can't have 2 home teams.

Have you got a shed Eddie? Set up bar in there and invite all your pub mates to come for a donation.

Strange how we are being told that we are all drinking more than ever, but the pubs are all closing. Supermarket booze aisles doing well?

hello EDDIE

that is a crying shame, i don't know what to say - presumably you'll all have a big final drinking session tomorrow
Why is it closing?
That's a pain, Eddie and a common one....it's not that we want a pub just for the drink....it's the camaraderie... clubs...quiz nights....etc....and yet we are losing so many....
I know what you mean, EDDIE. It's a real shame that, but I think it's a similar story over most of the country at the moment.
You'll be a bit better off though
Time to catch a train perhaps, Eddie?

;-)
Set up in all night Tesco car park. They have nicked the trade!
I realise that a lot of pubs have closed. There is normally a reason given by someone. Is it not viable, is it being sold for gain etc.?

Yes it will be a 'session' tomorrow, free drinks for regular customers and other drinks all at £2 each until they run out. I am 63 and have been using that pub since 1976 or 77 not sure which. I am thinking of going dressed as if I was going to a funeral with a black tie and suit. One of the remaining 4 pubs is a 'Weatherspoons' so more a MacDonald's with beer than a proper pub. Even worse another one of the pubs has no real ale which is all I ever drink, so that is out of the question as well.
I think I must be the' longest serving customer' most of the regulars were not even born when I started using the pub.
sorry to hear that, Eddie, we had a nearby pub go and the next one invited them in to run their team from them. Sounds like you have some way to go for that though.....

The long serving Landlady of 23 years died 2 years ago and left the pub to her 3 children. There is a guest house beside it as well which is also closing.
They have been offered £1.5 million for the pub and guest house, it is being turned into a care home. The lure of £500,000 each has proved too much for her 3 children ( who are all adults now)
>>>One of the remaining 4 pubs is a 'Weatherspoons' so more a MacDonald's with beer than a proper pub

You must have one of the poorer Wetherspoon's then, Eddie. Some of them are really classy, such as this one down the road (or rail track) from me:

Actually, now that you've made me think of it, I've realised that there's a train in a few minutes time. See you later!
What a shame for you Eddie. So many pubs are closing
very annoying. my boys are in their 20s and hardly ever go to the pub. don't know where I went wrong with them. ;(

Buenchico I still get into the Flying Pig as often as possible but Cambridge is a £6 train ride away, no good for a 'quick one'
Nothing against Weatherspoons I go in there often but it does not have the atmosphere of a 'proper pub' and the bar staff are different every time you go in. Plus you have to wait for a beer while the staff are busy making coffee and taking food orders, it must do 75% of its business on food and coffee rather than alcohol.
4 gone here for houses & flats. Build/hire premises, get license, create jobs for staff; get others to make it a co-operative to share exes & profits.
Follow the example of the good folk of Denmead.
Ooops, forgot the link

^^ Too late and any way we could not match the £1.5 million it has sold for!
