My 'local' Of 37 Years Is Closing Tomorrow.
47 Answers
My 'local' pub is closing tomorrow, I have been a customer for the last 37 years. Not really a question more a moan. What the hell am I going to do now? We used to have 11 pubs in my small town now we are down to 4 and the nearest is over on the other side of town, too far to walk at 3 miles away.
The Pool and darts teams will be homeless from tomorrow as well both the other pubs that have a pool/darts team play in the same league so they can't have 2 home teams.

I am 63 and have been using that pub since 1976 or 77 not sure which. I am thinking of going dressed as if I was going to a funeral with a black tie and suit. One of the remaining 4 pubs is a 'Weatherspoons' so more a MacDonald's with beer than a proper pub. Even worse another one of the pubs has no real ale which is all I ever drink, so that is out of the question as well.
I think I must be the' longest serving customer' most of the regulars were not even born when I started using the pub.

The long serving Landlady of 23 years died 2 years ago and left the pub to her 3 children. There is a guest house beside it as well which is also closing.
They have been offered £1.5 million for the pub and guest house, it is being turned into a care home. The lure of £500,000 each has proved too much for her 3 children ( who are all adults now)

You must have one of the poorer Wetherspoon's then, Eddie. Some of them are really classy, such as this one down the road (or rail track) from me:

Actually, now that you've made me think of it, I've realised that there's a train in a few minutes time. See you later!

Buenchico I still get into the Flying Pig as often as possible but Cambridge is a £6 train ride away, no good for a 'quick one'
Nothing against Weatherspoons I go in there often but it does not have the atmosphere of a 'proper pub' and the bar staff are different every time you go in. Plus you have to wait for a beer while the staff are busy making coffee and taking food orders, it must do 75% of its business on food and coffee rather than alcohol.
