It is not a decline. He has been saying Meat is Murder for 30 years. If anything it highlights his consistency.

A lot of what Morrissey says is designed to create headlines and this is no exception. He is just a musician. We don't really need to take any notice of what he says. He doesn't matter.

I think there is a difference between saying "Meat is Murder", and saying that "Eating Meat is the Moral Equivalent of Paedophilia or Nazism", Gromit. Certainly more inflammatory and provocative.

I certainly see it as an evidence of decline - a recognition of his own decline into irrelevance to popular culture and a desperate attempt at generating some notoriety.
