Crashes are reported in newspapers because editors consider them newsworthy. Follow-ups are rarely considered newsworthy.

Because "25 Killed in building fire last night" sells more papers than "building fire 6 months ago caused by overloaded socket"
They do get investigated though. |

Also peoiple are told things over and over again and dont do anything about it.
How many millions of homes do not have smoke alarms fitted, when often the fire brigade will come round and fit them for free. And I was waiting to cross a busy road recently and while waiting counted the number of poeple not wearing seat belts. I have to say it was about 1 in 10. Often young men or people driving "vans", but also a lot of Asians (we get a lot of Asians round here and many dont wear seat belts, or even bother to put their children in child seats or in seat belts. |

Personally I always assume that the other drivers are incompetent and I have habitually contemplated what I would do if met someone doing the wrong thing on my daily drive. Hopefully I would instinctively follow that action if it ever happened. |
