I apologise for not knowing how to link videos and such but please check out 'The most astounding fact in the Universe' video on MSN.

It is so beautiful.....The Astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson talks about how we as humans are connected to the universe and how he feels 'big' when he looks up at the sky......

That we happened to be born and live in a time where reason is no longer forced to take a back seat to superstition and we are at last able to obtain meaningful answers to some of the most profound and vexing questions that have haunted humankind ever seen we first learned to ask the question . . . "Why?"

d9flc7...that is a mouthful! Try and watch the link elsewhere if possible, it is beautiful.

Despite Mibn's own personal explanation as I believe that their are other plains of existence such as the spiritual, the most astounding fact in the universe is that we and everything else which exists is connected by atoms to the core of stars.

Thus Tyson says that our atoms are traceable to the stars which have collapsed and created all things including the solar system to us...'That universe is in us.' That's why he explains he feels 'big' when he looks at the stars.

Flobadob, I don't know if you have seen the film 'Melancholia' starring Kristen Dunst?

It is really boring. I confess to x2ing most of it with the subtitles on but the ending is visually stunning and the film clouds the mind for many weeks afterwards.

It is about a planet called Melancholia heading to Earth, it starts with Kristen's wedding and the rest of the film has a handful of people in it. It's unlike other disaster films.

But watching the wedding in particular and how Kristen has a long bath part way through while everyone is waiting to cut the cake and you ask what is going on? It is so slow, pointless.... and later it dawns on you, the realisation of the very question you ask....

What is the point of everything? That film will answer it for you. Its a haunting movie.
Right so someone has just found out that heavy elements are made in stars! I see, I hoped there was some new discovery!

Sorry to disappoint you d9f1c7, it is titled 'The most astounding fact in the Universe' not 'The most astounding new discovery in the Universe.' (LOL)
