State coastlines

Somebody once told me that the state of Michigan had the longest coastline of any of the US states.  Looking at maps it does look very long but can anybody confirm this.

Alaska has the longest coastline in the U.S., 6,640 miles, greater than that of all other states combined... however Michigan is second with 2,242 miles (and another 879 miles if islands are included). This equals the length of the Atlantic Coast, from Maine to Florida...
I did a search on Ask Jeeves and there are several different answers but the US Geology Survey website says it's Alaska.
i guess michigan has the longest coastline of the mainland us states then
